One curious sighting occurred in New York city in 1926. A female Erumpent was desperately in need of mating and wandered to the Central Park Zoo where she found herself in the presence of a very desirable hippopotamus. As Newt Scamander attempted to use the magic of dance to lure her back into his NewtCase, the No-Maj Jacob Kowalski spilled Erumpent musk on himself and lured her to him instead. They had a merry chase through Central Park ending just as Mr. Kowalski was dangerously close to being mounted and/or sinking into the frozen lake of Central Park.

Erumpent numbers are not great, as males frequently explode each other during mating season. They are treated with great caution by African wizards.
